Materials Needed: Before you start, make sure you have everything!
- Lihyang USB hot stamping pen: The star of the show, of course!
- USB power adapter: 5V/2A or higher power is recommended.
- Hot stamping foil: The Lihyang hot stamping pen comes with 6 rolls; choose your favorite colors.
- Paper you want to hot stamp: Smooth-surfaced paper is recommended, such as uncoated paper, woodfree paper, cardstock, etc.
- Utility knife or scissors: For cutting hot stamping foil.
- Ruler: For hot stamping straight lines.
- Pencil: To lightly sketch your design on the paper.
- Masking tape: To secure the hot stamping foil.
First-time hot stamping pen use, six easy steps!
Step One: Install the tip and preheat
- Operation: Choose your preferred tip, install it on the hot stamping pen, and plug the USB cable into a power source. A red indicator light means it's heating up.
- Tip: Be patient! It takes about 3 minutes to heat up (4 minutes in cold weather). Once the indicator light is steady, it's at the optimal working temperature.
Step Two: Cut and secure the hot stamping foil
- Operation: Cut the hot stamping foil slightly larger than your design. Place it shiny side up, matte side down, over the paper.
- Tip: Use masking tape to secure the edges of the hot stamping foil to prevent it from moving during hot stamping.
Step Three: Sketch your design (optional)
- Operation: Lightly sketch the pattern or text you want to hot stamp on the paper with a pencil.
- Tip: Use light pressure to avoid leaving deep marks. If you have a light box, you can use it to trace without drawing directly on the paper.
Step Four: Start hot stamping!
- Operation: Gently place the pen tip on the hot stamping foil, maintaining steady and even pressure and speed.
- Tip: Imagine you're writing. Practice on scrap paper to get a feel for it. For detailed techniques, refer to the DIY Tutorial Page.
Step Five: Check and peel off the hot stamping foil
- Operation: After finishing, let it cool for a few seconds, then gently peel off the hot stamping foil.
- Tip: Peel gently. If some parts are incomplete, you can re-cover and re-stamp.
Step Six: Clean and store
- Operation: Unplug the USB cable. Once the tip has cooled, wipe it with a soft cloth and store it in a clean box.
- Tip: Regular cleaning can extend its lifespan.
What if hot stamping fails? Three common troubleshooting tips for beginners!
- Lines are broken or intermittent? → Reheat, slow down, ensure the hot stamping foil is secured.
- Hot stamping foil won't stick? → Ensure the shiny side is up, preheat thoroughly, try smoother paper.
- Design is blurry or paper is indented? → Reduce pressure, increase movement speed.
Advanced Tips: Make your hot stamping projects more professional!
- Diverse tip applications: The 4 tips come in fine and thick sizes, allowing for different effects.
- Layered hot stamping: After the first layer has completely cooled, layer a different color for a second hot stamping.
- Use with templates: Use commercially available templates or create your own to hot stamp complex designs.
With these techniques and practice, you too can become a hot stamping master!
